The Biggest Water Parks

World’s Largest Indoor Water Park

SeaGaia Ocean Dome, Japan

SeaGaia waterpark

Japan waterpark SeaGaia

Japan’s SeaGaia Ocean Dome was the world’s largest indoor park (it looks like it has been closed since 2007). It has a retractable roof, 3 water slides and surfing. When it was open, it also had boutiques where you could rent high fashion swimsuits and several different restaurants including some fast food (concessions?).

North America’s Largest Indoor Water Park

Kalahari Resort, Sandusky Ohio

North America’s largest water park under one roof is in Ohio. The Kalahari water park has a 12,000 square foot wave pool, lazy river ride, waterfall rafting ride, and even a swim up bar for the grown ups. There is also miniature golf, pottery, an arcade, and a safari experience with real animals. The Candy Hut sells ice cream, chocolate, and mentions something called a ‘single dipped cake cone.’ Not sure what that is, but it contains some of my favorite concession food words. Dipped, cake, cone… sounds like a recipe for delicious to me!

World’s Longest Water Slide

sonnentherme-lutzmannsburg

On April 1, 2008 the website GetBracknell reported that a nine mile long water slide was planned to open in Bracknell in the UK for 2012. April Fool’s jokes aside, the longest indoor water slides in the world (or at least in Europe) appear to be in Austria at a water park called Sonnentherme Lutzmannburg. Their website describes the slides in a section that translates to ‘Funny Waters.’ The longest slide is named Speedy and an elevator takes you to the top.

Longest Homemade Water Slide

If this article has inspired you, here is a do-it-yourself version for your own backyard (if your backyard is lakefront, anyways…). There is a bit of a lull part way through the video, but it’s worth the wait if you watch the last slider’s jump at the end.

Where is the world’s longest water slide?

If you have information about the the longest indoor or outdoor water slide, please let me know!

In the mean time, if you can buy it from a trailer, a cart, or a concession counter – I am probably writing (and drooling) about it here at drivinganddining.com. Some of my guilty pleasures so far: giant pretzels, the corn dogfunnel cakes, and others. Stay tuned for more or subscribe and get new articles delivered straight to you!

Impressive research here! I can only imagine what the SeaGaia Ocean Dome is used for now?

I know – it’s huge and it sounds like it’s just sitting there empty – must be very strange. Thanks for stopping by Traci :)
