Easter Egg Hunts
Well it’s that time of year again, time to strap on those bunny ears and hop around the yard hiding eggs just so your kids can go look for them! I always enjoy finding the ones they miss, months later when they are squished (and squishy)… but no one wants to see a Grinch at Easter time, so I thought I’d look for some stories about Easter from across the country to get me in the mood.
World’s Largest Easter Egg
You won’t have any problems finding this egg – it’s the biggest Easter egg in the world, located in Vegreville, Alberta Canada, and I bet each of the 5,000 residents in that small town can give you directions! According to the eggheads at the Calgary Unix Users Group, the “nine metre(!) high egg, decorated in traditional Ukrainian style, was built in 1975 to commemorate the centennial of the formation of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Alberta.” An egg to commemorate the Mounties? I don’t get it.
Biggest Egg Hunt
A Winter Haven, Florida theme park called Cypress Gardens is listed in the Guiness World Records for holding the largest Egg Hunt in 2007. Over 9,000 people hunted for 510,000 candy filled eggs – it took them less than an hour to collect them!
Egg-cient History
Ancient Zoroastrians decorated eggs as far back as 2,500 years ago.
In a Jewish tradition during Passover, boiled eggs are dipped in salt water.
The Easter bunny was first mentioned by Georg von Franckenau, a German physicist and botanist in the late 1600′s.
The first non-egg Easter eggs pop up in Germany in the early 1800′s (they were made out of pastry).

List of Easter Egg Hunts Across The Country
Here are some links to information about Easter Egg Hunt events. Many theme parks have Easter egg hunts, which is a good excuse for me to feed my concession obsession by visiting the concession stands there. (I wonder if any of the concessions will have any Easter-themed treats?! I’ll let you know!)
Manassas Patch (Virginia)
Five events in Virginia, including an Inflatable Easter Egg Hunt – kids will be searching for eggs while bouncing on giant inflatables – now that is the perfect SPRING event!
Detroit
Over a dozen events in the Detroit area, including an event called an Egg Hung, that I found very intriguing (and a bit scary) until I realized it was just a spelling error.
Utah
There are numerous events across the state of Utah – the site Coupons 4 Utah also has a list of free Easter Egg Hunts for any bunny out there on a budget.
