Bunnytown, USA

There’s something bunny going down in New Mexico, a bunny resort of sorts. A great place for the Easter Bunny to relax after this weekend is over and an otherwise timely feature at drivinganddining.com because, it’s the Year of the Rabbit:

Bunnytown, USA

Meet Jeff Hartzer of Albuquerque, New Mexico. He used to deliver mail and read meters but now he’s the mayor of Bunnytown, USA. It all started in 1995 when Jeff decided he’d like a bunny.

You can visit Bunnytown online at bunnytown.com for the history of the town and some photos (I particularly like the one of Mr. Hartzer in the bunny suit).

Ears an update: I left Jeff Hartzer a message about whether people could visit Bunnytown or if it was strictly a private site. He replied, “we do offer tours by appt. only (505-842-9418)…no charge”.

The Year of the Rabbit

Check out Leslie Linthicum’s article in the Albuquerque journal, ‘Lessons in Living, From Bunnytown USA‘ for advice about navigating the Year of the Rabbit.

Astrologer Susan Levitt describes the Year of the Rabbit as a year where “taste and refinement are valued. Comfort is desired. Money can be made easily but also spent easily because the hare or rabbit loves beauty, luxury or artifice.” (VOAnews.com)

The Easter Bunny and Chinese astrology meet in this picture of the Easter bunny, using a technique called Chinese brush painting.

The Bugs Bunny Motel

If you’re in Denver, Colorado you can hop on over to the Big Bunny Motel, formerly the Bugs Bunny Motel. Check out RoadsideAmerica.com for the whole story.

Roadside Rabbits

If you’re in Aloha, Oregon say hello to Harvey the Giant Rabbit. Stuckattheairport.com tells the interesting story of Harvey’s birth – which includes a gas station attendant, a man named Harvey, and a $2,000 repair bill…

The Bunny Museum

If you’re in California, there’s the Bunny Museum in Pasadena California. It’s in Candace Frazee and Steve Lubanski’s house – the biggest collection of bunny stuff in the world; and just when you think it can’t get any cuter, you find out it is a tribute to their love for each other. Visits to the museum are by appointment only, check out their website for more information: thebunnymuseum.com.

Bunny Themed Attractions and Bunny Theme Parks

If you know of any other bunny themed sites, I would love to hare about it.

Concession Obsession

I also couldn’t find any information about concessions at the bunny attractions featured today: if you know of a concession stand or concession foods sold at their gift shops, please leave a comment below.
